Wangchu studies the cellular architecture of mammalian mechanosensory dorsal horn. By combining genetic labelling tools and large-volume electron microscopy, he aims to reconstruct the neural circuits underlie gentle touch perception. He received his BSc from Zhejiang University and MSc from the University of Edinburgh before joining Biological & Biomedical Sciences Program. He likes reading especially Southern Gothic literature and Japanese literature. He writes novellas in his free time.

Mohd Freezely Mazri
Research technician
Mohd is interested in understanding how neurons connect in the brain and how these connections unravel the basic principles how multiple sensory modalities information integrate to support different behaviors. During his Master’s, he studied how a serotonergic neuron modulates a neuron sub-population that expresses multiple serotonin receptors in the antennal lobe of Drosophila melanogaster, which suggest complex neuromodulatory effects of serotonin in influencing olfactory stimuli processing. In the Lee lab, Mohd is learning the fundamentals of connectomics and the practice of large-scale electron and X-ray microscopy for unraveling organizational principles in neuronal circuits. He aims at utilizing these skills to understand the general pipeline of creating neuronal circuit datasets and neuron connections supporting multi-sensory integration. Mohd is also interested in making neuroscience fun to learn and easily accessible for the general public. In his free time, Mohd enjoys nature, travelling, and learning traditional Silat, a martial arts system from Southeast Asia.
Yervand Azatian
Data scientist
Yervand is interested in developing computational tools for the lab. He likes to study the brain in all sorts of ways: from minute single-cell resolution to the scale of functional networks. His research experience and curiosity expand to multiple disciplines, including epigenetics and graph theory. Yervand also has a passion for teaching and making science and technology education more accessible. Outside of the lab, he is an instructor of data science at Yandex and is also working on his own start-up to build an educational platform for learning biostatistics.
